Individual
counseling provides an opportunity for you to openly talk about your
thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. Together we can discuss
your issues and concerns. Some examples of concerns that bring people
to therapy are anxiety, depression, inability to make decisions, loss
and grief, chronic medical problems, difficulty getting along with
others and family struggles.
Sometimes people seek
therapy for situations that challenge them, that leave them feeling
stuck. Examples can include adult sibling issues, dealing
with aging
parents, in-.law conflicts, an acute medical crisis and trauma. It’s
not unusual for people to feel like they’ve been in a familiar rut for
a long time. A personal crisis is often the event that motivates a
decision to seek individual counseling.
Common outcomes
of individual therapy are enhanced self-esteem, increased confidence
and an over-all sense of well being. A crisis situation can become
manageable. Resources can be identified and mobilized. The goal is to
enable you to feel more in control of your life and able to make
decisions confidently. Increased satisfaction is a common outcome of
personal counseling.
Individual therapy, or
counseling, involves meeting
with a therapist over a period of time. This can range from a few
weekly sessions to a medium or long term participation in weekly
appointments. Decisions about the frequency and duration are discussed
during therapy sessions with a collaborative decision as to the best
way to proceed.
A session is typically 50
minutes. Your medical
insurance will likely cover a portion of the fee. A
consultative telephone conversation precedes
the initial appointment. There is no charge.
